Holiday Donor Blood Drive

The American Legion’s annual Holiday Blood Donor Drive is now through Dec. 31. During this time, American Legion Family members are encouraged to give blood and host blood drives as part of the American Legion Blood Donor Program – an organizational effort that has existed since 1946 to help a lifesaving cause. Be the One Day

On the first day of every month, Legion Family members are encouraged to wear a Be the One item to show their commitment to reducing the stigma around mental health issues among veterans and servicemembers. And to start a conversation about what Be the One is and how to save the life of a veteran. Legion posts should also promote Be the One on the first day of every month. Visit legion.org/betheone

Pearl Harbor Day (1941)

American Legion Family members remember and honor the 2,403 Americans who were killed in the Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii on Dec. 7, 1941. The attack led to the United States declaring war on Japan and thus entering World War II. Each elected American Legion national commander visits Pearl Harbor on Pearl Harbor Day to pay respect.

Post All-Time High Award

This certificate is awarded to posts that have enrolled an advance membership for the year about to start equaling or surpassing the post’s previous all-time high membership by Dec. 31 of that year.

Post Honor Ribbon

Dec 31, 2024

Honor ribbons are awarded to posts whose membership for the current membership year (as of Dec. 31) achieves an advance membership (for the year about to begin) equal to or greater than the final membership for the year ending. Certification forms must be submitted to the Membership Division by Jan. 31. The application is in the National Membership Awards Program Manual.

General John J. Pershing Honor Award

This plaque is awarded annually to the department with the greatest percentage of posts receiving the Post Honor Ribbon for achieving 100% or more of their previous year’s membership enrolled for the coming year by Dec. 31, and having reported the achievement to National Headquarters no later than Jan. 31.
