OCW grant provides veterans transportation 

The Birmingham VA Medical Center now has the ability to transport veterans and family members from the parking deck and bus stop to the main facility thanks to the efforts of the American Legion Department of Alabama. 

The Department of Alabama provided the Birmingham VA with a 2023 five-passenger transport cart made possible by an American Legion Operation Comfort Warriors (OCW) grant. It is the fourth OCW grant the Birmingham VA has received from the Department of Alabama over the last five years. 

“The VA identified the need and the American Legion Department of Alabama, from the local post level to the department leadership, were 100 percent behind it,” said Ron Bradstreet, Department of Alabama Assistant National Executive Committeeman.  

Operation Comfort Warriors provides rehabilitation and recovering items to military personnel recovering in Department of Defense medical facilities and individuals wounded in service but have since left the military, as well as provides items needed for veterans in VA facilities.
