Trio of Legion alumni among 1st-time All-Stars

Of the players selected to Major League Baseball’s 94th All-Star Game, 32 are All-Star first-timers.

That includes three of the four American Legion Baseball alumni named to the All-Star Game, which takes place July 16 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, home of the 2023 World Series champion Texas Rangers.

Last year’s AL Rookie of the Year, Baltimore shortstop Gunnar Henderson (Post 20/Selma, Ala.), earned a starting spot in the game. Through July 7, he was batting .293 with 27 home runs and 61 RBIs.

Joining Henderson on the American League All-Star roster is Boston right-hander Tanner Houck (Post 361/Collinsville, Ill.). Houck entered the week 7-6 with a 2.68 ERA.

Philadelphia had a major league-high seven All-Stars, including first-timer Alec Bohm (Post 1/Omaha, Neb.). The Phillies’ third baseman will start in the National League infield. He entered this week’s action with a .296 batting average, 11 home runs and 70 RBIs.

His teammate, first baseman Bryce Harper (Las Vegas), earned his seventh All-Star selection but may not play as he recovers from a left hamstring strain that’s sidelined him since June 28. Harper’s batting .303 with 20 home runs and 58 RBIs this season.

The All-Star Game will air on FOX at 8 p.m. ET July 16.
