Department of Colorado Firefighter of the Year
Congratulations to Casey Venafro of Castle Rock FD! He was named American Legion Department of Colorado Firefighter of the Year at the Mid-Year Conference at Post 32.
Casey was delivering a patient to the ER when he heard a ruckus from the next room. Using the skills he learned in the U.S. Army, he disarmed a disturbed man.
Ironically, he has another connection to The American Legion. When he was still on active duty, he received permission from the Army to attend a fire academy in Penrose. Our very own Detachment Junior Vice and Squadron 209 Commander Rob Barry taught that class, which motivated him to pursue his second career with the FD.
