The National Color Guard Contest will open the 103rd American Legion National Convention in Milwaukee at 4 p.m. on Aug. 26, in the Exhibit Hall, Sections A-B, 3rd Level of the Wisconsin Center. Newport Harbor Post 291 of Newport Beach, Calif., hopes to defend its title as champion. The four classes of competition are Advancing/Retiring Colors, Military, Military-Open and Open; in each class, competing units perform maneuvers with a group of flags, saluting to an area active-duty servicemember. Units can represent any part of the American Legion Family, or have a combination of members.

On Aug. 28, the American Legion National Concert Band Contest will begin at 1 p.m. at the same location in the Wisconsin Center, and includes Concert Band and Exhibition Concert Band classes performing sets of largely symphonic pieces. This event returns after a two-year hiatus.

Both Legion competitions will be live streamed on the American Legion National Headquarters Facebook page
