Haverhill Vietnam Veteran Memorial

Haverhill Vietnam Veteran Memorial

A simple 13-inch-tall obelisk greets visitors on the pathway to the memorial for the 13 from Haverhill who gave their lives during the war. This new memorial replaced the original memorial, placed on the Main Street bridge, that bears the name of the first fallen from Haverhill, Ralph Basiliere. That side of the bridge location has no parking nearby; it is small and cramped. A commission was formed to find a new location in the city that would be fitting for the memorial. The commission wouldn't stop there. They forged forward and had a bigger memorial plaque cast, an obelisk installed, and added a flagpole, a walkway, several benches, and four information pillars that educate younger visitors on where the war took place, how the draft worked, the effects of Agent Orange, and a brief history of the war in Vietnam.
