First Responders and Military Veterans Memorial

Purpose of Memorial - Tribute to the 1st Responders (police and county sheriff and deputy law enforcement officials; Savannah and Andrew County firefighters; and the Andrew County emergency medical response personnel) along with recognizing the military veterans of Andrew County in all the branches (Marines, Army, Navy, Merchant Marines, Coast Guard, and the Air Force). Seven-foot black marble engraved stone was donated by a well-known local patriotic veteran, who wishes to remain anonymous. The overall management of the stone will be maintained by the Andrew County Commissioners, since the monument is located on the courthouse grounds. The ten-foot, black marble stone arrived the first week in May 2017. The formal dedication was scheduled for Memorial Day. Memorial dedicated on Memorial Day, 29 May 2017. The Andrew County Dedication program: Welcome by Andrew County Commissioner Bob Caldwell Colors posted by Dick Munkres Post 287 led by Legionnaire Brian Stackhouse Invocation by First Christian Church Reverend Steve Thaler National Anthem performed by the Savannah High School Band Pledge of Allegiance led by Andrew County Commissioner Bob Caldwell Unveiling the Memorial Monument: Everett Powell (World War II veteran and a 70-year member of The American Legion), Chris Wheeler, Heidi Wheeler and Madison Baumann Introduction of the Guest Speakers: Ron Shepherd- (Vietnam War veteran and member of Dick Munkres Post 287), and Andrew County Commissioner Bob Caldwell Speakers: Missouri State Senator Dan Hegeman Missouri State Representative Delus Johnson Representing the Veterans was City of Savannah Mayor Don Dillman (Vietnam War veteran and also is the current American Legion Post Commander) Representing the 1st Responders was Andrew County Sheriff Bryan Atkins Music Presentation by the Savannah High School Band Retiring of the Colors completed by Dick Munkres Post 287 led by Legionnaire Brian Stackhouse Special thanks to Rupp Funeral Home of Saint Joseph, Missouri who loaned the large American Flag hoisted by the Andrew County and Savannah City Fire Department
