Stewart County, Tennessee Veterans War Memorial

Stewart County, Tennessee Veterans War Memorial

The "89" refers to the number of Stewart County Veterans who died in combat operations while serving in the Armed Forces. Thirty are from WWI, 40 from WWII, six from Korea, nine from Vietnam, and four from Iraq/Afghanistan. The names of the dead are permanently etched on the Stewart County War Memorial, located on the Stewart County Courthouse grounds in Dover, Tennessee. The war memorial was dedicated on November 30, 1995 with close to 60 people in attendance. Katie Lill designed the monument face and Jamie Crow of Stewart County Monuments helped to carry out the project. Stewart County Executive Rick Joiner, Dover Mayor Ray Sexton, Officers from VFW Post 4730, and countless other citizens assisted in the completion of the war memorial. The three statues were later placed on the monument sometime in 1996.
