SPC Jordan M. Morris Memorial Highway

A 6.2 mile, 2-lane segment of State Highway 108, between SH 51 in the north and SH 33 in the south, was designated a Memorial Highway in 2012, in honor of Specialist Jordan Matthew Morris, a member of the United States Army. He participated in the American Legion Boys State program, graduated from Ripley High School, attended The United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, and trained at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in England. He reported for active duty service with the U.S. Army at Fort Benning, at Columbus, Georgia for basic infantry training on January 1, 2011. He subsequently served as an infantry soldier in the United States and abroad, and deployed overseas to Afghanistan on May 5, 2011, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom XI. Specialist Morris was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry). He was manning a .50-caliber machine gun atop a Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) All-Terrain Vehicle on a mission at Nalgham Combat Outpost in Kandahar Province, in southern Afghanistan, on August 11, 2011, when his vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device (IED). Specialist Morris and the other four soldiers in the vehicle were killed in action in the explosion. Among his awards are the Combat Infantryman Badge, Bronze Star Medal, and Purple Heart.
