World War II War Marker Honoring Our War Dead

In 1945, Mrs. R.O. Powelson gave a lot on Main Street, Rosendale, Missouri to be used for a marker honoring our war dead. O.D. Branstetter, Agriculture teacher, and his class brought the granite rock from the Porterfield farm located west of Rosendale. On September 14, 1946, the living memorial was dedicated by Mrs. Stanley, from King City, State Chairman of Living Memorials. Mrs. Stanley's address was accompanied with a certificate, the second of its kind in the state. The memorial was dedicated in honor of the men and women from here who served in the armed forces during World War II, all of who returned to their homes safely. The inscription on the stone reads, “Memorial dedicated by a grateful community to honor those valiant men and women who gave themselves in service and sacrifice for God and Country.” The memorial stone and grounds are currently being maintained by the Rosendale Community Garden Club.
