Register now for Legion career events

Registration is now being accepted for four special American Legion career-building events in late August during the 95th National Convention in Houston. The Legion’s Economic Commission is working with the Small Business Administration, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and major companies with veteran-hiring programs to provide information and opportunities free of charge to veterans in transition.

The events are:

  • The Hiring Our Heroes Transition & Benefits Job Fair, produced by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and The American Legion, Aug. 27 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in Room 342, 3rd Floor, George Brown Convention Center, Houston. The fair is open to veterans, active-duty military, National Guard and Reserve members and eligible spouses.
  • A two-day Women’s Small Business Workshop with the U.S. Small Business Administration Aug. 26-27 at the Hilton Americas Houston Hotel. The session is specifically designed to help women veterans identify opportunities, write business plans and launch their enterprises.
  • An Employment Transition Workshop is planned Aug. 26-27 at the Hilton Americas Houston Hotel, featuring expert insights from such companies as General Electric, 1st Command Bank, SAP, Sallie Mae and Nextstar. They will provide information and opportunities for training in a variety of career areas with jobs available at their companies.
  • The first American Legion Empowering Conference Career & Benefits Center Aug. 26-27 at the Hilton Americas Houston Hotel aims to provide veterans with information they need to obtain careers in a variety of industries and understand their veterams employment benefits.
