California post color guard leads local Cinco de Mayo parade

The Joe Dominguez American Legion Post 742 Color Guard took center stage at the Cinco de Mayo parade in Corona, Calif., leading the procession with pride and honor. As the team, adorned in their uniforms and flying their flags high, made their way down the parade route marching in unison, hundreds of spectators lined the streets, erupting in cheers and applause, showing their gratitude and respect for the men and women who have served their country with courage and distinction. Veterans and members of the Sons of The American Legion comprise the team.

The color guard not only led the parade but also served as a powerful reminder of the importance of honoring and supporting our nation's veterans. Their presence was a testament to the enduring spirit of service and sacrifice that defines The American Legion and all those who have worn the uniform in defense of freedom and democracy.

Tom Sherman, a lifelong resident and seasoned veteran who served his country with valor and distinction in Vietnam, led the color guard team. Sherman, a sergeant with the 9th Infantry Division, 1st Battalion, 84th Artillery, exemplified the epitome of courage and dedication during his service from 1966 to 1968. His role as a respected Vietnam veteran and beloved member of the city showcased the unique blend of patriotism, service and hometown pride that defines the spirit of Corona.
