Youth garden project draws national attention

Word is spreading about a youth garden project at American Legion John B. Latimer Post 217 in College Park, Md.

First shared nationally on Legion.org, the youth garden recently was featured in a news story by CBS News, with stations across the country picking up the report.

“Get children off the XBoxes, outside, doing something with their family, doing something with their parents,” SAL National Commander Don “JR” Hall told CBS News. “One of the sayings that we used was ‘get it in their hands to get it into their hearts.’”

SAL leadership hope the youth garden idea grows nationwide.
