The memorial is a triptych of veterans monuments. The first element is a life sized bronze statue of a World War I Doughboy that has been restored with gold paint. The second element is a granite honor roll containing the names of the eleven men from Franklin Borough, Pennsylvania who were killed in action in World War II. The third element concerns the last name on the Honor Roll, Sgt. Michael Strank, USMC. As a member of the 5th Marine Division, he was one of the Marines who raised the American flag on Iwo Jima. On February 23,1945, he appeared in the most recognized photograph ever taken. In 1986, the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission honored Sgt. Strank with an official Historical Marker.
