The monument honors the service and sacrifice of those from Mount Vernon, Pennsylvania who served during World War II. Seven of them made the ultimate sacrifice. The monument consists of a bronze plaque attached to local sandstone blocks. Later an additional plaque was added mentioning the locations of conflicts after World War II, but not the names of those local residents who served.
