All of the historic Pennsylvania Turnpike is a Blue Star Highway. In 1993, Turnpike 66, a Turnpike Extension Highway received the Blue Star designation. The Commission chose to honor the Westmoreland County based 14th Quartermaster Detachment which lost 13 members in Saudi Arabia due to an Iraqi missile attack in 1991.
