The Canadian County Bar Association created and placed this version of the Canadian County War Memorial in the third Canadian County Courthouse dedicated in 1986 on the site of the original Courthouse 1901-1964. The original courthouse, jail and stable had been designed by Architect Solomon Layton, who designed the Oklahoma State Capitol. The stable has been restored. The memorial is on the second floor of the courthouse. The bronze lettering was saved from the original courthouse and second courthouse. The black plaques are grouped starting with World War I and list the names of known Canadian County Service members who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Between the name of the memorial and the names of those killed in action or who died of their wounds is a plaque with a quotation from President Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. The courthouse is open from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
