Cuyahoga County Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument

Cuyahoga County Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument

This is a building with a very thorough presentation of the Civil War and the contributions of Ohio and Cuyahoga County. No one is left out: Infantry, Cavalry, Artillery and Navy common GIs; Blacks and Women; even a dog (which my mother appreciated) are represented in imposing outdoor statue groups of brutal combat scenes and indoor bas-reliefs. There are busts of prominent leaders, stained glass windows, bronze doors and flowers in the surrounding grass. On the walls are inscribed the names of the 9,000 Cuyahogans who served.
