Eugene Kock Memorial Park
This park is named for U. S. Army Specialist/4 Eugene John Kock who died in Vietnam on March 22, 1969. He and his family were residents of Westside, Iowa and many of his family still lives here. The park features the flag of the United States, the flag of Iowa and the POW/MIA flag behind a Vietnam fallen soldier statue. The bronze battlefield cross is often placed on or near a battlefield to memorialize a fallen soldier. This battlefield cross also bears a replication of Kock's dog tags. A bronze plaque placed on the monument provides details of Kock's life and death. The park features 320 engraved pavers, of which 105 are memorial pavers to honor veterans. At the center of the park, 17 pavers honor soldiers killed in action during World I and World War II.
