From heart disease to a healthy life

This week’s Tango Alpha Lima podcast features Navy veteran and Legionnaire Kelley Gilberry, who shares his knowledge about overcoming heart disease and obesity.

Before he turned 40, Navy veteran Kelley Gilberry was overweight, battling heart disease and struggling with high blood sugar. His diet largely consisted of McDonald’s and other fast-food meals.

He fought back to reclaim his health with a plant-based diet.

Soon he would be winning the battle, reversing his heart disease, bringing his blood sugar back under control and shedding 70 pounds.

Now Gilberry has a new mission: to help others do the same.

On the new episode of The American Legion Tango Alpha Lima podcast, he shares his story about how his late mother appeared to him in a dream, encouraging him to improve his health and inspire others to do the same. “What do I know about healing anybody?” he thought. “But as I did research, I kept reading, “it’s the food. It’s the food. From there I went on a mission to transform my own health. And now to transform the health of everybody else on the planet, especially those in the military.”

A member of American Legion Post 827 in Texas, Gilberry is a health coach and nutritionist who has created his One Determined Vegan brand. He also wrote Plants Saved My Life

Gilberry guides individuals on a transformative journey to revolutionize their health without relying on pharmaceuticals. With over 18 years of experience in training and development, he employs his “Medicine Free Method” and “The Ant Philosophy” to empower audiences to shift their mindsets and reclaim their physical and mental well-being. He firmly believes that a healthy individual has a multitude of desires in life, whereas someone not in good health has but a single wish — to regain their health.

He encourages people to reduce their consumption of processed foods like Twinkies, cookies, crackers, sweetened beverages and other items.

“It’s not actually food,” he says. “It looks like food. It tastes like food. It feels like food. But it’s not actually food.”

First he would recommend people focus on salads and whole foods, then remove items with carcinogens from their diets. Examples include processed meats like salami, sausages and deli meats.
