SAL Commander Fox and others will place flags on veterans’ graves at cemetery in Whitestown, Ind., during Fall Meetings.
SAL National Commander Michael Fox and members of the SAL NEC will participate in a Flying Flags for Heroes event during the SAL Fall Meetings this weekend in Indianapolis.
The group and others will go to Lincoln Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Whitestown, Ind., for the event after 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 2. The event is open to the public.
Flying Flags for Heroes is Commander Fox’s service project. The goal is to place 1 million flags on veterans’ graves in local cemeteries across the country. Flying Flags for Heroes developed out of a nonprofit started by now-16-year-old SAL member Preston Sharp, who began raising money to honor veterans in his hometown of Redding, Calif., when he was 10.
“Honoring our veterans doesn’t have to be on Veterans Day or Memorial Day. It can be any day that you want it to be,” Fox said while talking about the project at last weekend’s Boys State and Girls State Directors’ Conference.
