American Legion monitoring stability in Niger.

The American Legion today responded to ongoing developments in Niger and recent evacuation announcement of nonemergency personnel and families from the U.S. Embassy. The American Legion will continue to monitor the stability of the region and safety of U.S. servicemembers, diplomats, and their families. Should the country become unstable, and a full evacuation be required, The American Legion will encourage the nation’s leaders to ensure the safety of all U.S. servicemembers, diplomats, and their families.

The American Legion was founded on four key pillars of priority to include National Security. American embassy personnel play a vital role in successful diplomacy and help ensure the country’s national security.

American Legion National Commander Vincent J.” Jim” Troiola issued the following statement:

“The American Legion is actively monitoring the unfolding situation in Niger – with the safety and security of U.S. servicemembers, diplomats, and their families front of mind. We strongly encourage our nation’s leaders to prioritize their protection. On behalf of The American Legion’s 1.6 million members, we reaffirm our commitment to the wellbeing of our troops in harm’s way.”
