The Honorable Patrick J. Murphy, the 32nd Army Under Secretary and America’s first Iraq War veteran elected to Congress, is this week’s Tango Alpha Lima podcast special guest.
The Honorable Patrick J. Murphy was the 32nd Army Under Secretary and America’s first Iraq War veteran to serve in Congress. At age 19, Murphy joined the Army, launching a lifelong commitment to our nation’s military and veterans.
“It changed my life for the better,” he says. “I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for the U.S. military.”
Murphy was elected to Congress in 2006.
“It was like focusing like a bulldog on a bone when I had that opportunity to serve in the U.S. Congress to make it better for my brothers and sister veterans,” said Murphy, a member of American Legion Post 754 in Pennsylvania. “That’s why I partnered to push the 9/11 GI Bill.”
What is Patrick Murphy doing now?
Find out in this week’s episode of the American Legion Tango Alpha Lima podcast.
Murphy is chairman of Task Force Movement, which is a coalition of military experts and industry specialists focused on improving the lives of transitioning servicemembers, veterans and military families. He also is a lecturer at the Wharton School of Business and venture capitalist for veteran-owned companies focused on dual use technologies.
He is counting on assistance from The American Legion.
“The Legion has done a phenomenal job,” he said, noting the Be the One mission. “If you try to do everything for everyone, you aren’t going to get anything done. You have to be focused on two or three things and do them really well. I think you are doing a phenomenal job in amplifying the stories of our brothers and sisters.”
