Legionnaires, Auxiliary members and others will help feed 175 patients and staff at the Naval Medical Center.
The American Legion's Operation Comfort Warriors (OCW) program will feed 175 patients and staff members affiliated with the Naval Medical Center in San Diego the day after Veterans Day.
“It’s all about taking care of our troops,” said Richard “Sunny” Farrand, who helps coordinate these events quarterly as OCW chairman for the Department of California. “We just need to get ‘er done.”
The American Legion’s OCW program is allocating $500 for the barbecue and another $500 for backpacks, caps and specialty lighted caps. The lighted caps are designed for wounded servicemembers who are in wheelchairs or otherwise may have trouble navigating sidewalks at night or in dimly lit areas around Balboa Park, where the Naval Medical Center is located.
Members of local Legion posts, Auxiliary units and American Legion Riders will be participating in the event by helping to feed the patients and staff members hamburgers and brats, potato salad, beans and more.
