Wounded warriors and their families in San Diego enjoy turkey dinner and presents.
The American Legion’s Operation Comfort Warriors (OCW) program provided a Christmas dinner for wounded warriors and their families Dec. 18 at the Naval Medical Center Warrior Transition Battalion in San Diego.
More than 50 wounded warriors and family members dined on turkeys, trimmings and pies, courtesy of OCW and the Blue Star Moms of San Diego. Christmas stockings, gifts and toys for children were also handed out, thanks to the Unitarian Universalist Church of San Diego.
Among the Department of California Legion family members serving food and providing entertainment were Richard "Sunny" Farrand, OCW/H2H chairman; Jennie McFarling, Legion Rider, Post 149 of Escondido; and Tom Gravelle, member of Post 255 of National City.
On the same night, a similar dinner was held for wounded servicemen and women at Fort Meade, Md. OCW donated $500 worth of hats, T-shirts, water bottles and more gear.
