Importance of peer specialists and the need to apply the “90-10 rule” are among the issues tackled in Washington.
American Legion national divisions delivered statements and testimony in October on legislation that would require VA to have peer specialists at each of its medical centers, among other topics related to mental health, and advised the Department of Education to fulfill a law passed last spring to close the so-called “90-10 loophole” that led to student-veteran exploitation.
Meanwhile, The American Legion delivered flags to schools, helped veterans with their VA claims, assembled care packages for troops, presented funds for law-enforcement agencies in Virginia, approved hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships, and more.
