Hill launches market-penetration awards

Two departments will be honored for improving the Legion's market penetration while hitting 95 percent of their membership goal by a May target date.

National Commander Clarence Hill has created an incentive program for American Legion departments that have increased their market penetration. The winning departments will be honored at the national convention in Milwaukee this August.

Two awards in each category, for a possible total of 12, will recognize market penetration accomplishments; each award will be based on the six Big Twelve categories. To qualify for these awards, a department must achieve at least 95 percent of its goal by the May target date using traditional membership methods, but DMS will be factored in for market penetration percentages. These awards will be determined on Aug. 6.

The first market penetration award will be for the greatest improvement over last year's market penetration percentage in each of the six Big Twelve categories.

The second market penetration award will be based on the highest percentage of achievement in each of the six Big Twelve categories.

Below is a spreadsheet that shows what percentages are being used for the departments' starting points.
