In July, there were 612,000 visits to www.legion.org, over 100,000 more than the previous record set in July 2018.
In the history of the national website, there has never been a more frequently visited month than July 2019.
In that month, there were 612,000 visits to www.legion.org, over 100,000 more than the previous record set in July 2018. The number of sessions (or total visits) during July 2019 was 719,453, beating the previous record of 670,807 set one year ago.
"This is a testament to the ongoing strong work by the entire American Legion Family," said Walter Ivie, chairman of the Media and Communications Commission, which oversees the website. "Summertime is when our youth programs take center stage, thanks to the tireless dedication of volunteers. They put in countless hours to make Boys Nation and Boys State, American Legion Baseball and other programs successful. And these website metrics indicate our audience has a keen interest in these activities."
The record-setting month mirrors the trend for this year. Overall, visits and sessions are up 11 percent in 2019 through the end of July as compared to the same time frame of the previous year.
"In this 24/7 media world, our members thirst for updated news and information about The American Legion," Ivie said. "In response, we redesigned the website a few years ago to take advantage of today's technology and to meet the needs of our audience. We expect this upward swing to continue."
