New library exhibit at National Headquarters honors 100th anniversary of youth program.
The Library and Museum Division at National Headquarters in Indianapolis has created a new exhibit – American Legion Baseball: 1925-2025 – honoring the centennial of the nationwide youth program.
A series of glass cases in the fourth-floor lobby and inside the library feature artifacts, publications and photographs from the Legion’s Archives and Museum that represent the game, its legends and its history.
Items of note include a baseball from the first American Legion World Series in 1926; a baseball signed by Kenesaw Mountain Landis, the first commissioner of what is now Major League Baseball; and medals. Also included are photos of teams and baseball greats such as Johnny Bench, Yogi Berra and Bob Feller; programs from the American Legion World Series; and youth fiction books on Legion Baseball.
The exhibit will be on display until early next year.
