Legion’s memorial database still being added to.

The 3,739 entries on The American Legion’s online memorial database, submitted over nearly a decade, span history and geography. And it is still growing – below are the five newest entries.

Oak Crest Cemetery Veterans Memorial, Downers Grove, Ill.: installed in 2022 by Post 391 in nearby Lombard.

Veterans Monument, Wayland, Mass.: “Dark granite, 5 feet wide, 3 feet high and inscribed ‘In honor and memory of all veterans …’ with service emblems.” Installed in 2022 by Charles H. Alward Post 133 in Wayland.

Cuyahoga County Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument, Cleveland: “This is a building with a very thorough presentation of the Civil War and the contributions of Ohio and Cuyahoga County. No one is left out … represented in imposing outdoor statue groups of brutal combat scenes and indoor bas-reliefs. There are busts of prominent leaders, stained glass windows, bronze doors and flowers in the surrounding grass. On the walls are inscribed the names of the 9,000 Cuyahogans who served.”

The Castle, Brackenridge, Pa.: “Looks like the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers emblem, with a Lest We Forget inscription.”

POW-MIA Memorial, Sebastian, Fla.: “Black granite with POW-MIA logo engraved … surrounded by stars made from the brass grommets saved from our flag retirement ceremonies.” Installed in 2023 by the Sons of The American Legion in Sebastian.
