American Legion Past National Commander Denise Rohan to accept recognition on behalf of Vietnam War combat nurse, author Diane Carlson Evans.
Vietnam War combat nurse and American Legion life member Diane Carlson Evans, who spent a decade leading efforts to install the Vietnam Women’s Memorial in 1993 on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., which has served as an inspiration for women in the military for more than 30 years, will receive the Presidential Citizens Medal at the White House.
CSPAN will broadcast the ceremony live at 5 p.m. Eastern time on Thursday, Jan. 2.
Accepting the medal from President Joe Biden on behalf of all women who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, emphatically the more than 265,000 who wore the uniform during the Vietnam War, will be American Legion Past National Commander Denise M. Rohan, stepping in for Carlson Evans, who was unable to travel for the event due to health reasons.
Rohan, an Army veteran and first woman elected to lead the nation’s largest veterans organization, will be joined by retired Army Cols. Karen M. Gausman and Lennie Susan Enzel, along with retired Navy Capt. Judy Brinckerhoff; Donna and Ronald Greenwood of Helena, Mont.; and Past National Commander’s Aide Mike Rohan.
