Post, Auxiliary unit collect funds and clothes for distressed Korean families.

In late 1951, as winter bore down and the Korean peninsula was a war zone, American Legion Post 26 and American Legion Auxiliary Unit 26 in Minot, N.D., turned their attention to citizens suffering there.
Working with three different transportation companies and the U.S. Navy, the American Legion Family of Minot collected nearly 25,000 pounds of clothing and raised over $1,000 to provide humanitarian relief for Koreans caught in the crosshairs of the war.

Three transportation companies relayed the goods and funds to the port: Dakota Transfer Co. of Minot; United Transfer Co. of Havre, Mont.; and Consolidated Freightways of Seattle.

The cargo was then carried by Navy ship to Korea after American Legion Department of Washington Commander Harry L. Cole met the shipment at the Seattle Terminal.
