Item: Legion Birthday Special Event – March 9
The next special event station operation will commemorate the 100th birthday of The American Legion, March 15-17, 2019. While the three-day period is typical for the full observance, K9TAL operations will be limited to one day, Saturday, March 9, from 1300 to 1900 EST [1800Z-2359Z].
Call sign for the Special Event will be our club call sign: K9TAL. We will operate on 20m, 14.275 MHz; 40m, 7.225 MHz; IRLP Node 9735; and EchoLink *CrossRoads* Conference node.
As with all TALARC special events, certificates will be issued free on request to those who are entered into the TALARC log books on that day.
Full information on the special event is, or soon will be, on the Legion website at www.legion.org/hamradio, and on the K9TAL page on the QRZ.com website.

Item: The American Legion’s Centennial celebration is well underway
The American Legion, chartered by Congress in 1919, is in the midst of its centennial observance. The yearlong celebration, which kicked off at the Minneapolis national convention in August 2018, is focused on commemorating the organization’s first century of service while continuing its legacy into the future.
These are the two primary planks in The American Legion’s 100th Anniversary Celebration platform. Since the American Legion National Executive Committee passed Resolution 31 in 2011, plans for the organization’s centennial celebration in 2018 and 2019 have followed two related paths: legacy of the last 100 years and vision for the next 100.
The 100th anniversary is a perfect time to chart a course for your post’s second century. New generations of veterans will depend on the kind of vision shared, expressed and executed by the Legion’s World War I-era founders, a vision that has proven timeless.
How will your post extend impactful vision and values to future generations? If you are unsure, visit the Legion website and download the 100th Anniversary Media Toolkit to learn how you can be party to the celebration. The kit is free for download at www.legion.org/centennial/mediakits. Or you can search: 100th Anniversary Media Toolkit, on the Legion home page.
