Item: Veterans Day Special Event Follow-up
The American Legion Amateur Radio Club’s annual “Salute to America’s Veterans” Special Event Station operation – conducted on Veterans Day, Sunday, Nov. 11 – was a great success. QSOs for the 6-hour event were well over 400, via 40 meters, 20 meters, IRLP and EchoLink.
Special events of the past have always shown a spike in TALARC interest and membership growth on the heels of the event, and this year was no different. The call sign for the day was N9V and the QRZ.com page for that call sign recorded more than 1,300 hits on the day of the activity. In the 72 hours following the event, more than 30 new members joined TALARC’s ranks. It was a good day for promotion of the club!
Thanks go to all who participated, and a special “Thank You” goes to Bill Huntimer KIØCW, in South Dakota, and Everett Bollin WA3DVO, in Maryland, for the 20-meter control station work and their contributions to the overall success.
For those who QSOd with Special Event Station N9V, be sure to follow up and secure a QSL card and certificate from the Legion’s National Headquarters. Information and instructions regarding these items is on K9TAL’s page – as well as on the N9V page – on the QRZ.com website.
Item: Season’s Greetings
From the TALARC Board of Officers at Indianapolis and those of us who serve the club as Net Control Station operators go our sincere best wishes for a very Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous new year. We hope Santa treats you well and that you find under your Christmas tree everything you need to build up your radio room and further cultivate your interest in amateur radio operations.
