Item: Veterans Day Special Event
The Legion’s annual “salute to veterans” Special Event will get underway Saturday, Nov. 11 at 1300 EST and run to 1900 EST. Net Control stations in Indiana will handle 40m, IRLP, EchoLink and the K9DC repeater. Net Control stations in South Dakota and Maryland will handle 20m. All will use the call sign N9V – “November Niner Veteran.” More information about the event is on the K9TAL and N9V pages on QRZ.com. For those who participate, be sure to follow-up and secure a QSL card and certificate from National Headquarters. [Note: NCSs that operate after the special event, please remind folks to get a QSL card and a certificate of participation; instructions are on K9TAL’s QRZ.com page.]
Item: D-Star Digital Net gets a new Net Control Station
After more than three years as NCS for the national D-Star net, TALARC member Mark, W2UIS, of New York has relinquished the position. To Mark we offer a Bravo-Zulu; a “well done,” for his work over that time. Taking over the reins of the D-Star net are members of the Wilderness Road Amateur Radio Club, W4CDA, at Parksville, Ky., American Legion Post 46. NCS for the D-Star net will be George Coomer, KM4QOY. He will be operating from the post radio room on the first Monday of each month and you can find the net on Reflector 026Alpha.
Item: Legion Post Clubs/Stations are increasing in number
There are now more than 25 fixed American Legion amateur radio clubs and club stations coast to coast, and more than 3,300 licensed amateur radio members in TALARC. Among the newest clubs, within the last month or so, are:
• W4CDA, the Wilderness Road ARC, Parksville, Ky., American Legion Post 46; station trustee is George, WQ4Z.
• WF4TAL, TALARC Post 187, Wake Forest, N.C.; station trustee is Chris, W4CEC.
• KG5VJM, American Legion Post 942 Amateur Radio Club, Sugar Land, Texas; station trustee is Bob, KD5AT.
