In honor of Women’s History Month, Pamela Oliver-Shepheard receives praise from her Post 828 commander.
Throughout the past year, Pamela Oliver-Shepheard, adjutant of Fred Brock American Legion Post 828 in San Antonio, Texas, has performed her duties in a consistent, professional, exemplary and outstanding manner.
She is a consummate professional in all aspects of performing her duties as post adjutant, going far above and beyond my expectations and those of the Post Executive Committee. Possessing an infectious cheerful attitude, a calm presence and a can-do attitude, she is a trusted member of the Fred Brock Post 828 family and understands how to navigate sensitive situations.
Not only is she responsible for executing the duties of the post adjutant, which are numerous, but she also serves as post webmaster, social media manager and hubmaster. As a dual member of the post and Auxiliary Unit 828, she has served as the Auxiliary adjutant and social media manager. Due to her time and effort, both the post and the Auxiliary reached their membership goals of 100 percent for 2024.
In early 2024, there was a major issue with processing payments for renewals and new memberships between the post and National Headquarters. Through her direct communication with national, the problem was solved and Post 828 was able to process all memberships, resulting in achieving its 100% membership goal and reaching an all-time high of 401 members.
To enhance communication with the post family, she sends out weekly messages via a text message service utilizing her personal funds. She also creates, prints and distributes post fliers and newsletters to keep the family informed of post activities and programs. Additionally, due to her dedication, the post was recognized at the department convention with the Chuck Donaldson Award for best Monthly Newsletter-Digital, Patsy Palmquist Award for best Facebook page and second place for best website.
Oliver-Shepheard is well respected throughout the post, Auxiliary and Sons of The American Legion. Due to a change in leadership mid-year and the resignation of the squadron adjutant, Oliver-Shepheard stepped up to mentor and assist the new squadron commander in ensuring the processing of renewals and new memberships did not falter. Her approachable demeanor is a key factor in the outstanding customer service she provides daily to all members of the Post 828 family.
Last year she suffered a major health emergency, but that did not stop her from continuing her duties. Her dedication is one of a kind.
Post programs are more effective, administrative services operate appropriately, and advertising has vastly improved overall. Her unselfish service and commitment to Post 828 members has been outstanding.
