Sons of The American Legion Squadron 19 in Hood River, Ore., is an example of how The American Legion’s fourth pillar, Children & Youth, is upheld.

Squadron 19 recently gave a $5,000 donation to Youth Empowerment Shelter (YES), which helps young people in crisis. “We truly hope this $5,000 will help make a positive difference in the lives of those that need it most - the children of our community in crisis,” said Rich McCauley, Squadron 19 member, to the Columbia George News.

April is Children & Youth Month and during this month, American Legion Family members are encouraged to show their local communities our dedication to young people by supporting child health, education, family support and more.

The following are a few resources to help you support April is Children & Youth Month:

View the “Whole Child” bookazine that shares about beginning of the Legion’s support for children and youth, and its impact at the local, state and national.

Download the April is Children & Youth Month brochure for ideas on how to support and promote Children & Youth Month in your community.

Educate about The American Legion’s Temporary Financial Assistance (TFA) program which provides immediate financial grants of up to $1,500 to eligible military veterans and Legion members with children in the home who are facing a hardship. These are one-time grants designed to help meet the cost of shelter, food, utilities and health expenses so children have a stable environment during a time of hardship.

We want to hear from you. What is your post doing to support children and youth in your community this month? Please share by emailing dispatch@legion.org or submit your story to www.legiontown.org.
