
The Americanism, Children & Youth By-the-Numbers report shows program growth and post-level support.
The 2024 By-the-Numbers report for two pillars of The American Legion – Americanism and Children & Youth – highlights the organization’s commitment to fostering a 100% Americanism and supporting children in need. This is visible through youth program participation numbers, amount awarded in scholarships, flag activities, veteran family financial support, and other Americanism and Children & Youth participation at the post level.

The following are a few highlights:
· 54,918 youth from 3,051 teams played American Legion Baseball, representing 50 American Legion departments and Canada.
· 13,385 rising high school seniors participated in 50 American Legion Boys State programs.
· 941 oratorical contests were conducted that involved 6,435 youth from 50 departments.
· 701 individual athletes and 111 shooting clubs entered the 2023-2024 postal round competition of The American Legion Junior Shooting Sports National Tournament.
· 1,855 Scouting units were chartered by Legion Family across the nation, involving 34,768 youth.
· 2,546 students were presented an American Legion School Award Medal.
· 4,715 Flag Day activities were conducted by posts.
· 1,538 Get Out the Vote activities were conducted.
· 461 citizenship and naturalization activities were supported by posts.
· 1,723 activities were conducted for Halloween by posts.
· 69 minor children of 23 eligible veterans in 17 states received an American Legion Temporary Financial Assistance grant to help support the children’s basic needs of food, shelter, utilities and clothing. (subject to final audit)
