Wellness tips for Legionnaires: Your health, our priority

As the official Medicare Advantage Provider of The American Legion, Wellcare is committed to the health and safety of the communities we serve.

As we kick off the new year, we at Wellcare want to remind you that your health and well-being remain our top priority. Your service to our country has been invaluable, and now it's our turn to serve you with the wellness tools and support you deserve. The following are a few simple but important wellness reminders to help keep you feeling your best.

1. Keep moving

Physical activity is one of the best ways to maintain your health. Whether it’s walking, stretching or light exercises, staying active can improve your heart health, boost your mood, and help you stay strong as you age. Aim for at least 30 minutes a day of moderate exercise, and remember, every little bit counts.

2. Fuel your body right

Good nutrition plays a huge role in your overall health. A balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins can help keep your energy up and your body in optimal condition. If you need help navigating healthy eating, our dietitian services are available to guide you in making the best choices for your lifestyle.

3. Prioritize your mental health

Your mental well-being is just as important as your physical health. Stress, anxiety or feelings of isolation are all common challenges many veterans face. Don't hesitate to reach out for support, whether it's through our counseling services, local veteran groups, or simply checking in with a loved one. There’s no shame in asking for help. For quick access visit the Be The One website.

4. Keep up with preventive care

Preventive health measures can catch potential issues before they become serious. Make sure you're staying up-to-date with regular checkups, screenings, and vaccinations. From flu shots to cancer screenings, early detection can save lives. If you haven't had your annual wellness exam yet, now's a great time to schedule it!

5. Stay connected with the Legion community

Loneliness and social isolation can have a big impact on your health. One of the great benefits of The American Legion is the opportunity to stay connected with fellow veterans who understand your experiences. Whether you're attending events, participating in group activities, or simply sharing stories with friends, maintaining these bonds is important for your emotional health.

6. Take advantage of your Wellcare benefits

As a Wellcare member, you have access to a variety of health resources, including wellness programs, telehealth services and more. If you haven’t already, take time to explore the benefits available to you. Your Wellcare care team is here to help guide you through your healthcare journey and answer any questions you may have.
