American Legion Family members are supporting teachers and students with much-needed back-to-school supplies. Many Legion Family members have shared how their post supported this effort by uploading a story and photo to www.legiontown.org. - Members of American Legion Riders Chapter 129 in Jacksonville Beach, Fla., learned from a teacher that has connections to the post that she would spend hundreds of dollars of her own money to purchase school supplies for students who were unable to pay for their supplies. And that didn’t sit well with Chapter 129 and was the reason it started its backpack supplies program. For around six years, the Riders have provided backpacks full of school supplies and delivered them to a different school each year. This year the recipient was Neptune Beach Elementary School, which was provided with 66 full backpacks. Read the full story.
- Post 109 in Vail, Ariz., spearheaded with the Corona De Tucson Fire District, a local business and other members of the community to fill one of the fire department’s new trucks with school supplies. The contents of the truck are for students in the Vail School District. The post was able to collect backpacks, pencils and pins, paper, hand sanitizer and other items. Read the full story.
- Henry K. Burtner American Legion Post 53 in Greensboro, N.C., spearheaded a successful back-to-school supply drive. Through generous donations from both the local community and post members, an estimated $400 worth of essential school supplies was donated, from glue sticks to Clorox wipes and Kleenex. On Aug. 20, Post 53 proudly delivered these supplies to Southern Guilford Elementary School, ensuring that students would have the tools they need to succeed in the classroom. Read the full story.
- American Legion Post 1703 in Prince George, Va., contributed $200 to help purchase essential supplies and equipment for teachers and students. They too donated school bookbags and school supplies to benefit the students at Prince George County schools. Read the full story.
- Members of Fred Brock American Legion Post 828 in San Antonio, Texas, joined by numerous organizations and volunteers, supported the 19th annual Back-to-School Jamboree hosted by the Claude W. Black Center Advisory Board in cooperation with H-E-B and the Desert of Texas Charitable Foundation at the Claude W. Black Community Center. Hundreds of supply-filled backpacks were made available for distribution along with a hot-dog luncheon. Read the full story.
