American Legion emblem featured on Chip Ganassi Racing No. 48 car; National Oratorical Contest cancellation news.

American Legion emblem makes IndyCar debut. The American Legion emblem is prominently featured on the newly revealed paint scheme for the No. 48 car that will be driven by seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson and former NTT IndyCar Series champion Tony Kanaan during the 2021 NTT IndyCar Series.
Carvana is the primary sponsor for most of the street and road races.

Johnson will drive the street and road courses this season, while Kanaan will handle the ovals. The American Legion will be the primary sponsor for multiple oval races during the season, including the Indianapolis 500 – known as “the greatest spectacle in racing” and won by Kanaan in 2013.

The American Legion livery will be revealed at a later date.

2021 American Legion National Oratorical Contest cancellation. As new variant strains of COVID-19 hold uncertainty for the possibility of reinfection, and the coronavirus vaccination is not yet available to everyone, the health and safety of all those involved with the program is of great concern to the organization. As a result, the 2021 National Oratorical Contest was canceled.

In accordance with National Oratorical Contest Rules, departments must have certified their oratorical winner to National Headquarters by Monday, March 15, 2021, in order for their champion to be awarded the $5,000 scholarship. This scholarship is available to department oratorical champions regardless of whether a department conducts its oratorical contest in a live or virtual format.

2021 Legacy Scholarship application. The deadline to submit an American Legion Legacy Scholarship application is April 15. The scholarship provides college funding to children of post-9/11 veterans who died on active duty, or those who have a combined VA disability rating of 50 percent or greater. Share this news with eligible applicants. They can apply online at  legion.org/scholarships/legacy.
