Joseph Sharpe will be one of the panelists for ‘Black Veterans and Good Jobs,’ in-person and streaming on July 25.
The director of The American Legion’s Veterans Employment and Education Division will participate in a roundtable discussion as the Department of Labor commemorates the 75th anniversary of the desegregation of the U.S. Armed Forces.
Joseph Sharpe and other panelists will discuss the key contributions of Black servicemembers, the current status of Black veterans in the civilian labor force, and solutions for supporting Black veterans’ transition and career success during “Black Veterans and Good Jobs” on July 25. The event will be held at the Frances Perkins Building - Cesar Chavez Memorial Auditorium, 200 Constitution Avenue Northwest, Washington, DC 20210, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. The event will also be streamed at dol.gov/live and will be posted at dol.gov/agencies/vets.
Other panelists include moderator Yolanda Peacock, a research analyst for the DOL’s Veterans Employment and Training Service (VETS); Patricia Jackson-Kelley, the immediate past national president of the National Association of Black Military Women; Victor LaGroon, chief diversity officer at the Department of Veterans Affairs; Barbara Ward, vice chair of the NAACP armed services and veterans affairs committee; Fallon Williams, LBGTQ+ veterans community outreach and relations specialist for the D.C. Mayor’s office of veterans affairs; and Joe Wynn, president and CEO of Veterans Enterprise Training and Services Group.
