Visit betheone.org/resources to help plan your veteran suicide prevention event.

Is your post, district or department planning a Be the One event? Downloadable tools are available at betheone.org/resources to help members support The American Legion’s mission to reduce veteran suicide.

The following resources will get you started:

Event PDF. This one-sheeter is a general guide to coordinating a Be the One event, with links to social media graphics to promote your event, community and media engagement, merchandise and more.

Local brochure. The Word document can be customized for Be the One events or distributed at any community event where Be the One can be shared. The trifold’s back page has instructions on how to customize it. Posts also can use the back page to add contact information, a QR code with a link to the post website or 988 Veterans Crisis Line, a list of local mental health resources, post service officer information and more.

How-to video. Department of Wisconsin Commander Jim Johnson gives best practices to how to conduct a Be the One walk, from picking a route to advertising and promotion. Johnson has successfully conducted four suicide awareness walks in his department.

Sample media advisory and press release. Download the documents, update them with your Be the One event information and distribute to local media, community partners and others.

Materials: Print-ready pop-up banners, flags, posters, table covers and more are available for your event. Download the items you want and order them from a local print shop.
