The May 28 event is aimed at raising awareness and funds to help prevent veteran suicide.

American Legion Post 491 in McHenry, Ill., is taking the Be the One message to the streets — literally.

Post 491 will host “March for the 22” on May 28, a reference to the oft-cited statistic that 22 veterans die from suicide each day. The event will include a 22-mile march, a 22-kilometer march and a 2.2-mile march.

The 22-mile march will begin at Veterans Memorial Park, 3400 Pearl St., McHenry, with sign-in beginning at 6 a.m. The 22-kilometer march will begin at Richmond Township Office, 7812 S. State Route 31, Richmond, with step-off time estimated between 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. The 2.2-mile march will begin at Halftime Bar & Grill, 2405 Johnsburg Road, Johnsburg, with step-off time estimated between 4 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.

All three distances will finish at Post 491, 1335 Riverside Drive, in McHenry.

All proceeds from the event will go to the Post 491 Veterans Assistance Fund.
