At least four players from the Tupelo 49ers, sponsored by Post 49 in Tupelo, have gone on to the major leagues.

And two of them, Brian Dozier and Brandon Woodruff, have been recognized as Legion Baseball’s Graduate of the Year.

First season of American Legion Baseball: 1928.

First state champion: Meridian Post 21.

Notable alumni: Chris Stratton, Tupelo, major leaguer; Brian Dozier, Tupelo, 2017 Graduate of the Year; Mitch Moreland, Tupelo, former major leaguer; Brandon Woodruff, Tupelo, 2022 Graduate of the Year.

American Legion World Series titles (1): West Point Post 212, 2002.

Other American Legion World Series appearances (8): Greenville, 1971; Hattiesburg, 1977; Jackson, 1961, 1975; Starkville, 1982, 1995; Tupelo, 2011, 2021.
