The late slugger will be the 88th American Legion Baseball alumnus elected to Cooperstown.
The number of American Legion Baseball alumni enshrined in the National Baseball Hall of Fame will reach 88 when the late Dick Allen joins the Class of 2025 next July.
Allen (Post 749/Wampum, Pa.) and Dave Parker were elected to the Hall of Fame by the Classic Baseball Era Committee. Parker received 14 votes from the 16-member committee and Allen received 13; 12 were needed for election.
Allen spent 15 seasons in the major leagues, playing for the Phillies, Cardinals, Dodgers, White Sox and Athletics, and finished with 351 career home runs, 1,119 RBIs and a .292 career average. He was the 1964 National League Rookie of the Year and the 1972 American League Most Valuable Player. He was also a seven-time All-Star selection.
Allen died in 2020.
Another Legion Baseball alum, Tommy John (Post 346 / Terre Haute, Ind.) was also under consideration by the Classic Baseball Era Committee. John, perhaps best known for the groundbreaking elbow surgery that bears his name, received seven votes.
The Class of 2025 will be inducted during a ceremony July 27, 2025, in Cooperstown, N.Y. Voting by the Baseball Writers Association of America for the class will be announced Jan. 21.
