Rain played havoc in the Great Lakes Regional and the defending ALWS champions rallied for an extra-innings win.
The first day of the 2022 American Legion Baseball regionals saw defending ALWS champion Idaho Falls, Idaho, win in walkoff fashion, 2022 ALWS participant Tupelo, Miss., win its first-round game and rain altered the Great Lakes Regional.
Region 1: Northeast
At Shrewsbury, Mass.
Game 1: Greece (N.Y.) Post 468 d. Concord (N.H.) Post 21, 4-0: Mike Salina (5 1-3 innings, 2 hits, 6 strikeouts, win) and Troy McPherson (1 2-3 innings, 1 hit, 2 strikeouts, save) combined for the shutout. Shortstop Jaden Madrid, first baseman Aiden Cook and right fielder Jacob Soricone had two hits apiece to lead the Greece offense.
Game 2: Cumberland (R.I.) Post 14 d. Hampden (Maine), 14-0 (5 innings): Michael Clapprood (4 1-3 innings, 1 hit, 6 strikeouts, win) and Nathan Kelly (2-3 innings, 1 hit) combined for the shutout. Nick Toro (3 hits, 2 doubles, 1 RBI), Connor Allard (2 hits), Jack Larose (2 hits, 2 RBIs) and Andrew Mastin (2 hits, 1 RBI) led the Cumberland offense.
Game 3: Essex (Vt.) Post 91 d. Franklin (Mass.) Post 75, 12-2 (6 innings): Braedon Jones threw an 8-hitter with 10 strikeouts for Essex, whose offense was led by William Erikson (3 hits, triple, 2 RBIs), Elijah Bostwick (3 hits), Matthew Safer (2 hits, double, 1 RBI), Benjamin Deibler (2 hits, 1 RBI) and Storm Dusablon (2 hits).
Game 4: Shrewsbury (Mass.) Post 397 d. Waterford (Conn.) Post 161, 13-3 (5 innings): David Siciliano went four innings for the pitching victory and Christopher Pompei (2 hits, 1 RBI), James Railsback (2 hits), Zachary Amaro (double, 3 RBIs), Patrick McManus (2 hits, double, 2 RBIs) and Andrew Gardner (1 hit, 3 RBIs) led the Post 397 offense.

Veterans Post 1, 6-5: Relievers Bobby Loper (4 innings, 3 hits, 6 strikeouts, win) and Thomas Wolfe (1 inning, 1 strikeout, save) led Chesapeake on the mound. And Austin Jones (2 hits) and Jacob Smith (home run, 3 RBIs) led the Post 280 offense, which overcame a 5-3 deficit with a three-run fifth inning.
Game 3: Allentown (N.J.) d. South Charleston (W. Va.) Post 94, 4-3 (11 innings): Allentown scored an unearned run in the top of the seventh to force extra innings, then won in the top of the 11th when Griffin Murphy scored on a wild pitch. Relievers Pat Burns (4 2-3 innings, 4 strikeouts, win) and Mike Doran (1-3 inning, save) and hitters Jacob Kramer (3 hits), Carl Barth (3 hits, 1 RBI), Thomas Kendrick (2 hits, 1 RBI) and Murphy (2 hits) led the winners.
Game 4: Phillipsburg (Pa.) Post 437 d. Morgantown (W. Va.) Post 2, 5-1: Owen Graham (5 innings, win) and Zach Tiracorda (2 innings) combined on a 4-hitter and Parker White (2 hits), Mike Kitko (2 hits, 2 RBIs), Zach Witherow (2 hits, 1 RBI) and Tiraconda (1 hit, 2 RBIs) led the Post 437 offense, which broke a 1-all tie with a four-run top of the fifth inning.
