About The Emil A. Blackmore Museum

The Emil A. Blackmore Museum of The American Legion is located at National Headquarters in Indianapolis. The museum's namesake served as the Legion’s national adjutant from July 1, 1956, until his death on April 21, 1967.

  • Dioramas depicting scenes from World War I, World War II, Vietnam and the War on Terrorism
  • The original handwritten draft for the 1944 GI Bill 
  • Original paintings, sculptures, prints and photographs
  • Featured artists: Howard Chandler Christy, Joe Rosenthal, Wayman Adams, and Leon Reni-Mel

Donations

Through the generosity of Legion members and other donors, our museum has acquired a significant collection of material related to the history of The American Legion. If you are interested in donating to the museum, please contact us with the following information.

  • A brief description of who owned the artifact(s) and their connection to The American Legion
  • Condition

All donations are unconditional and become property of The American Legion. In order to accept a donation, we require a signed Gift Donation Form. We cannot guarantee that a donated item will be placed on display. 

Please contact us before sending items for donation. If we are unable to accept your donation, we will try to suggest other appropriate repositories. We cannot accept unsolicited donations either by mail or in-person nor can we pass unsolicited donations on to a Legion post or another museum.
