Legion Family members to take part in community service project in New Orleans

Members of the American Legion Family will continue a longtime national convention tradition in New Orleans, where they will team up with another nonprofit on a community service project.

On Aug. 23, Legion Family members will team up with Rebuilding Together New Orleans to provide home repairs at two different residences where veterans reside.

At one location, the effort will replace the roof and repair the porch of a Vietnam War veteran who is the caregiver to a wife with Alzheimer’s.

At the other residence, owned by a Vietnam War Army veteran, the group will be making extensive exterior repairs, replacing compromised siding and trim and painting the entirety of the home.

The American Legion has worked with Rebuilding Together on national convention service projects in the past, including in 2013 in Houston, in 2014 in Charlotte, N.C, and in 2018 in Minneapolis.

In 2009, during The American Legion National Convention in Louisville, Ky., delegates passed Resolution 109, which states that “The American Legion supports the Veteran’s Housing Program of Rebuilding Together Inc. and its efforts to assist severely wounded, injured and economically distressed veterans.”
