The 5K race before the American Legion World Series will benefit the Road to Hope Bike Ride

Registration is now open for the Road to Hope 7th Inning Stretch 5K, a charity run in conjunction with the American Legion World Series in Shelby, N.C.

The run, scheduled for Aug. 7, will benefit the Road to Hope Bike Ride, a 529-mile bike ride from Shelby to Washington, D.C., held annually each May. The ride ends at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, which lists the names of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.

Registration fee for the run is $25 for runners and phantom runners (those who support the cause but will not run or walk the course), or $15 for veterans and law enforcement. To register or for more information, go to 7thinningstretch.cc/events/5k/.

“Our committee believes the 5K and Little Miss ALWS Pageant can be held with proper protocols regarding health and safety concerns and provide an exciting kickoff to the tournament,” said ALWS Chairman Eddie Holbrook.

The American Legion World Series is scheduled for Aug. 12-17 at Keeter Stadium in Shelby.
